Steven Tyler, Jennifer Lopez - American Idol 2011 starts in the Garden State

After watching the season two hours and 10 premiere of "American Idol", which finally can uncross your fingers and feel a little more optimistic about what this season has in store for "Idol" viewers.

While I can not even bear to watch the audition episodes - mostly because of the number of terrible auditions network shows - episode Wednesday night rises a little audition episodes of recent seasons.

Maybe they felt that way because of the energy Steven Tyler and Jennifer Lopez brought to the table of judges, or maybe Fox has finally learned that most people really are not interested in watching contestants crash and burn try to sing for the judges.

I'm Tyler and Lee did a great job the first time that judges, both trying to give constructive criticism, while still being honest with the contestants on their singing.

Actually I know almost nothing about Tyler, but he is the lead singer of Aerosmith. This guy is really funny in a crazy sort of way, and I loved it! If the goal of network executives was to give "American Idol", a much needed spark, which made the right decision in hiring Tyler.

As J. Lo, it was much nicer than I expected and really seemed concerned about hurting the feelings of the contestants would not receive a golden ticket. My dawg Randy Jackson remained real, as usual, and the trio seems to have good chemistry.

Season 10 Auditions began in the Meadowlands in East Rutherford, New Jersey (actually auditions took place on August 3, 2010) and lasted for two days. A handful of auditions were made to me, but nobody called my socks with his vocal and song selection.

A highlight was hearing 16-year-old Victoria Huggins of North Carolina. She had a cute accent, was super sweet and the judges loved her. With the age requirement was reduced to 15 this season, we're sure to see an increase in the number of auditions for young talent to be the next "American Idol."

No local competitors were seen during the presentation of Jersey hearing Wednesday night, but if you know of anyone in the Lehigh Valley to audition, please send an email to today@express-times.com.

Tune in tonight at eight o'clock to see what kind of talent show "American Idol" is when they stop listening in the Big Easy.
